These goals could only be met through considering the full spectrum of communications. The way we talk, look and act had to consistently tell the story of Westgold through the lense of our persona.

With carefully considered constraints on media and budget, we weren't just looking for visibility, we wanted impact.  Our solution was diverse, creating work that made every dollar work hard by getting noticed through clever and engaging media, while retaining a consistent message.

With a successful existing Smith City brand already, the new sister brand - Smiths Trade Outlet - needed to balance familiarity with a new trade-based audience. To do this we pulled on the exiting visual cues and colours but created an identity more suited to the straight-up, promotional and price driven nature of the audience.

The Smiths Trade Outlet brand offers a completely differentiated store model that no one in the market is doing.  For property developers, landlords and tradies looking for quick, easy, and cost-effective solutions (without compromising on quality) - Smiths Trade Outlet is a one-stop home furnishing shop with a huge range of discounted quality products enabling customers to get the best value in town. 

'Quality goods, priced to go' means the Smiths customers can simply pick their goods off the shelf and drive away the same day – a good deal any way you look at it. The design system and identity referenced the simplicity and ease of this process, whilst the copywriting style maintained Smiths cheeky tone of voice for maximum impact.

ANZCO Foods, one of New Zealand’s largest exporters, has a vision of bringing nutrition and good health to New Zealanders through top-quality beef and lamb. With a new IRONMAN New Zealand sponsorship, we were tasked with using it to share ANZCO's nutrition story.

IRONMAN® athletes epitomise an active and healthy lifestyle, relying heavily on proper nutrition for peak performance, especially iron. Endurance athletes need iron as its role in energy metabolism and the transportation of oxygen is critical to optimal athletic performance (to name a few). And what is one of the best sources of iron on the planet? Beef and lamb.

Our creative concept, "Putting the IRON in IRONMAN," emphasises how ANZCO's beef and lamb products support elite athletes in getting the nutrients they need for optimal performance.

We crafted a communication strategy targeting not only direct audiences but also the broader health, fitness, and high-performance community. This included leveraging influencers, digital platforms, podcasts, guerrilla marketing, and event activations, all supported by an internal communication plan to tell the story and get the ANZCO team moving.

To reinforce our message, we used Air New Zealand’s Kia Ora magazine, sharing stories of high-performance athletes over 12 months, and highlighting their achievements in sports and nutrition.

Additionally, we launched the "Nutrition Mission" podcast series, featuring discussions with athletes, nutritionists, coaches, and others showcasing innovative uses of beef and lamb in nutrition.

Taking an already successful brand (and a New Zealand financial icon) and evolving it visually and vocally into the realm of a much younger target audience meant taking a new approach.

The Milford KiwiSaver Kickstart events aimed to be a casual, informative and inclusive way to engage with a 18 – 30 year old audience, who were interested in what their financial futures may look like, if they worked with real experts.

The Milford KiwiSaver Kickstart “Invested Breakfast” series created a casual and informative way to engage with an 18 – 30-year-old audience who were interested in what their financial futures could look like if they worked with real experts.

With events around the country – donned with great espresso, muesli cups, and croissants – the creative needed to have a strong ‘event vibe’ that both aligned with our new audience but didn’t steer too far from the brand we had worked so hard to create.

Aligned with a media strategy based around the café’s and environment, the creative clearly resonated with the audience, with high attendance at events around the country. And the conversion trail still exists as we move into the events third year.

The Palms has been a Christchurch shopping institution for decades. However, as the retail environment is becoming more challenging, and the online offering is becoming more sophisticated, they needed to do something new to encourage more foot traffic.

This branding project aimed to reposition the brand to be the ‘Centre of choice’, by expanding and building on the existing brand assets, but being bold and single minded in our communication.

The vibrant, tropical, and playful vibe we created was drawn from the strong elements buried in the brand story, amplifying them to create:

- A strong local community feel, inviting customers in
- Cool retro 90’s nostalgia
- A hive of activity from entertainment, dining, shopping and events
- A playful tropical palm tree theme.

Combined, these create a unique vibe for The Palms that felt fresh and exciting while still being true to the brand.

The results? Well, they speak for themselves.  After two years of bold communication, and a Centre who are committed to creating a unique experience for its customers, foot traffic has started to increase by just over 10%, a triumph in a very declining retail environment.

EasiYo is a Kiwi-born brand with a long heritage. While loved in New Zealand there was an opportunity to target a younger generation of parents through D2C sales, as well as introduce the brand and increase its awareness to the British audience.

We were tasked with evolving this special New Zealand brand and developing an eCommerce strategy that would drive online sales in NZ, Australia, Europe and the UK.  To do this we needed to bring EasiYo into the modern era, by making it feel relevant and fresh. 

Aligning with the global trends of simplifying life, and being mindful of what we put into our bodies and the environment, we reframed the benefits of making yogurt at home as “feel good about homemade”.

Westgold's brand personality is about being a little cheeky when the time is right, owning their brand, and not being tied to the latest fad or trend. After winning a national butter award three times in a row, the "Butter bing, butter boom" campaign was born.

Celebratory and timely but with a bit of cheek thrown in, this nationwide campaign was executed within days of winning the award and ran across digital, social and outdoor. 

. Strong, impactful design and clever copywriting saw this campaign take off and gain solid traction for the brand both on-shelf and online, with an increase in website traffic of 292% during the peak of the campaign.

Kotahi needed a dynamic brand for their modern engineering studio. They are a no surprises, all-in, concerted approach to engineerings solutions, and a phenomenal team to work with.

The logo was created based on the insight of "making sense of complex challenges". Uniform shapes can be positioned in different ways - they can appear chaotic for a while but eventually we start to see patterns and ways of organising these forms to create clear and understandable solutions.  This was a reflection on Kotahi as a business - giving the impression of many parts working together with a clear view on the result.

When Nutrient Rescue approached us, their brand was in an exciting space. They knew  it was time to grow up just a little bit more, to tell the story of who they were, what they truly stood for, and where they fitted into their customers’ daily lives.

With the product all about a natural boost from the New Zealand-grown superfood powders, each element we create for this brand strongly supports this story.  The use of this brand's phenomenal ingredients now sees the brand truly coming to life throughout New Zealand and Australia. 

Photography is a key part of telling the Nutrient Rescue story and bringing to life their organic, natural product ethos. The bold photography style featuring their eight key ingredients, is all shot in a natural, approachable, an inspiring style to get consumers clicking.

Supplemented by bold typography and continuing to use the ingredients which are represented in each pack, the true product story comes to life in every execution, engaging the consumer in the brand story. 

And of course, there is never any harm in having a little fun.  Short form content is a key part of this brand, and for consumer engagement in today's environment.

A special friend of Q was diagnosed with bowel cancer at just 39 years old. Fortunately, she was one of the lucky ones to come out the other side. But that wasn’t the end of Chelsea’s cancer story. 

Q Brand Builders, a creative marketing agency in Christchurch, recently had the opportunity to help a friend spread the word about bowel cancer in New Zealand.

This nationwide campaign featured real, young New Zealanders who have had, or are still battling bowel cancer, to drive home the fact that bowel cancer can strike at any age.  It also won a national PR award, and was finalist in the New Zealand Marketing Awards. 

The campaign has been acknowledged by medical professionals and by BCNZ as an outstanding success in raising awareness of the rising incidence of bowel cancer in younger adults.  It reached hundreds of thousands of New Zealanders and spurred hundreds of people to get their symptoms checked, with a resulting spike in bowel cancer diagnoses.

The results were greater than we ever expected:

Overall website visits increased from an average of 25,000 to over 70,000

17,315 active post interactions across social platforms

Comments from surgeons that there was an obviously spike in younger people being diagnosed as a direct result of the campaign

Westland Milk Products, one of New Zealand's largest dairy companies had a goal: to tell their story, and put some power behind their business strategy.  A fresh new look underpinned their strategy in an extremely competitive global marketplace.

With a growing trend of DIY investing amongst millennials, Milford saw a gap to position themselves to this new audience, whilst continuing to demonstrate their market leadership position.

We knew this particular audience was unique, with the shared mindset of looking for instant gratification, recognition, ease, flexibility, authenticity and advancement. Milford's offering fitted perfect to solve these needs.

We needed to develop creative that sat within the Milford brand positioning, but had a distinctly more relatable feel for the under 40 target market using language, imagery and tactics to reach them, get them to notice us and finally convince them that Milford was the best option to help them achieve their goals.

“Serious investing made seriously easy” demonstrated that Milford's investment team makes expert investment decisions on your behalf, so you know your money is invested in the best places with very little of your own effort. As a low barrier to entry for this audience, clients could get started with just $1,000.

We reached our audience  through bold creative with a youthful tone, using customers to help tell our story, aligned with a media strategy that was innovative but overlapped with the more traditional media approach to ensure strong reach.

Led by the desire to provide quick and nutritious meals, Herba Gourmet is dedicated to bringing balance back into our lives. We created a quirky tone of voice and unique brand to match this special story.

New branding, copywriting, packaging and store fitout was created to support Herba Gourmet's retail presence in Riverside.

The tone of voice and implementation needed to break the mould, be flexible for use, and make a statement about what the brand was all about. This led to a straight up, wholesome tone meshed with a smidge of fun. Just like their food.

Sunshine and air - it’s what calls New Zealanders to the outdoors, and it's what we breathed into this much-loved holiday brand.  After 30 years of operation, it was time to bring a fresh touch to the nation’s TOP 10 Holidays Parks.

Eden Park holds a special place in the hearts of New Zealanders. Captivated by local photographer Lee Howell’s exhibition featuring the faces and people of Kingsland, Eden Park’s CEO Nick Sautner asked us to tell the stories behind this unique venue.

Eden Park wanted to create a campaign which would engage the community, humanise their brand, and bring the Park to life. 

Our solution? An “Our Neighbourhood” campaign, telling the stories, triumphs, and history of Eden Park, through the eyes of those who loved the stadium.  These stories make up the Eden Park 'neighbourhood', and show the business is so much more than bricks and mortar.  It is a home and life for so many who have worked there, or crossed paths with its grandeur over the years.

We met, interviewed, and wrote stories for each of the 25 people who fronted the exhibition. From the man whose first memory of Eden Park was camping outside to gain the best Lions Tour tickets in 1966, to a front of house waiter, the groundsman, and a young boy who absolutely loved Richie McCaw.

This was a once-in-a-lifetime project. The exhibition featured over 100 images through the walls and halls of Eden Park for 12 months.  A celebration of community, place and a passion for sport through the eyes of Eden Park's people. 

Visualising a company's internal values is one of our favourite things to do. This project was no different. Our job was to bring the ANZCO Foods values to life, while considering the many parts and people of their business.

With such a varied group - from the corporate office to the processing plants - we needed to engage with people from all walks of life, with all sorts of motivations for the work they do.

We created a fun illustrative style alongside a vibrant colour palette, bringing positivity to every space.

This project saw the creation of gifts for staff, large impactful graphics placed throughout the main offices, and fun promotional items to reinforce the messaging across the business.

Ocean Beef, part of the ANZCO Foods family, needed a fresh approach to stand out in Japan and China. They wanted a rebrand that highlighted what makes their beef special - the unique New Zealand environment and highest of quality, achieved through their grain-finishing process.

We set out to build a brand that spoke to people who appreciated natural, high quality products with a story that's engrained in its origin. 

'From spectacular shores, for supreme cuisine' sums up the Ocean Beef essence of striving for supreme quality, so their customers can do the same.  The culmination of Ocean Beef's story becomes the start of their customers' culinary journey. 

It's a tale of grass-fed cattle roaming in Aotearoa's green fields before being hand-picked for grain finishing between the Southern Alps and the shores of the Pacific Ocean.  This process gives the beef its famous marbling and melt-in-your-mouth tenderness.

We added a fine stippling effect, inspired by ocean spray and grain texture, to give a unique visual touch.  This effect runs through everything from brochures and packaging to digital media, making the brand stand out. 

The typography was a blend of elegance and modernity with a sophisticated set of colours to match the premium vibe.  This combination not only reflects the luxurious quality of Ocean Beef, but also maintains the cohesive and stylish look across all brand materials.

This brief called for us to create a campaign that would attract and align with those considering retirement, or approaching it, nominally those 65 years of age. In a crowded market with many financial service providers asking the same question, the question we had to answer for our audience was “Why choose Milford?”

An analysis of competitors showed that almost all promoted their expertise, success, or personal compatibility value as advisers. We concluded that our strategy needed a deeper level of engagement, with the customer in mind.

In our view, all good brand narratives should be based on a fundamental truth. So we conducted intensive interviews with key Milford personnel to tease out what their customers were looking for - beyond personal confidence and a trusted relationship. 

The truth turned out to be incredibly simple and obvious.  At, or approaching retirement age, people are thinking about whether they have enough to survive on and can they live well until death.  

We set aside design and cleverness – posed the questions we knew everyone was asking and acknowledged our customers with enough intelligence to understand that Milford had the answers.

From the pristine waters of Tasmania to your plate, Wild Legend's wild-caught scallops are carefully harvested and handled to preserve their succulent texture and delicate flavour. Sustainably caught and processed in Stanley Bay, these free-range scallops are packed with health benefits like antioxidants, iron, zinc, and vitamin B12.

Wild Legend wanted to reposition their range of scallop products in the retail market with new packaging that would reflect their premium status and enhance their on-shelf presence. The challenge was to design packaging that felt integrated with the Wild Legend brand while also establishing a unique identity for the scallops.

We rolled up our sleeves and came up with two standout packaging designs. The first is a half-shell pack featuring four half shells in a die-cut box, dressed up with gold foil details for that extra touch of luxury. We wove a shell pattern into the design to give it a natural and sophisticated look.

The second is a freezer bag design featuring a clear panel in the shape of a shell, allowing customers to see the product inside - something that was super important to Wild Legend. This design emphasises transparency and trust, showcasing the scallops' premium quality right off the bat.

We chose an elegant and modern typeface to reflect the premium nature of the product. We also created a set of icons that showcased key features of the scallops.

The copy was crafted to reflect the premium, natural, and wholesome qualities of Wild Legend Scallops. The tone is straightforward yet evocative, highlighting the pristine origins, meticulous handling, and health benefits of the product.

Our fresh packaging for Wild Legend's Frozen Wild Caught Scallops has turned heads in the market. The new design not only fits perfectly with the Wild Legend brand but also stands out on the retail shelf, capturing the essence of premium, sustainable, and delicious seafood from Tasmania.
